Memorial Day is the start of the summer travel season, and the already crowded Interstate 5 corridor will feel the pressure.
The coastal area of Western Washington also experiences heavier traffic in spring and summer. The state Department of Transportation recommends avoiding travel on I-5 in the Puget Sound and the Portland/Vancouver metro area Friday evening and Monday afternoon.
In the Tacoma-Olympia corridor, here’s what to expect:
• Saturday: Southbound, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Northbound, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
