Sunday event at Capitol Campus may include armed participants

The Department of Enterprise Service has issued a permit for a Sunday event in Heritage Park that the organizers are calling “Christian Boots on the Ground for Israel.”

The event will include music, speakers, American and Israeli flags, and, possibly, firearms.

Event organizers have told the department that some participants may bring guns to the event for security reasons. State law allows citizens to openly carry firearms in most public areas, including the Capitol Campus.

The Washington State Patrol will be on the campus Sunday. The event begins at 1 p.m. and is scheduled to end about 4 p.m.

Sunday will already be a busy day in downtown Olympia with an estimated 2,500 people coming in for the Capital City Marathon, which begins and ends at Sylvester Park. The marathon begins at 7 a.m. Sunday.
