State Democratic chairman to step down

Late-breaking news from the state Democratic Party, reported by The Seattle Times:

Dwight Pelz, chairman of the state party, is stepping down effective Feb. 1, 2014.

I have nothing to add to the nice reporting by one of my faves, the Times' Jim Brunner. To critique, though, the Eyman bashing at the end of the post might have been a tad gratuitous. Pelz didn't much care for Eyman, once likening him to a particularly stubborn sexually transmitted disease.

That makes both major party leaders at the state level announcing their resignations in 2013. Republican head Kirby Wilbur stepped down unexpectedly and immediately in July. Luanne Van Werven of Lynden replaced him as interim chair but then lost in an August election for permanent chair to Susan Hutchison. Van Werven remains state vice chair.

As Brunner reported, Democrats will elect Pelz's successor in February at their next state committee meeting.
