Attorney with local link wins "genius" grant for immigration efforts

Margaret Stock, principal attorney in the Anchorage office of Bellingham-based Cascadia Cross-Border Law, has been named the recipient of a "genius grant" from the MacArthur Foundation.

Stock has made several appearances in Bellingham in recent years to lecture on immigration issues, and what she sees as short-sighted policies stressing security and exclusion at the expense of a vibrant economy.

Stock is also a retired lieutenant colonel in the Military Police, U.S. Army Reserve, with 28 years of service. Among other things, the foundation saluted Stock's successful effort to get the Pentagon to adopt the  Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) program , enabling some legal aliens with special skills to get expedited citizenship through service in the Armed Forces.

Here's an interview with Stock in the Washington Post.
