Maple Falls pot store to open Monday, Sept. 15

The fifth recreational pot store in Whatcom County will open Monday, Sept. 15.

Green Stop, 7466 Mount Baker Highway in Maple Falls, also will be the county’s first marijuana store outside of Bellingham. It will open its door at noon.

“It’s been kind of a stressful process,” owner Marc Wilson said. “We’re excited to finally get open.”

Green Stop will sell dry marijuana flowers, pre-rolled joints, edibles and Juju Joints, which are like e-cigarettes with hash oil in them.

Edibles include marijuana-infused olive oil, cookies, biscotti, trail mix and nuts.

The two strains of flowers will be White Widow and OG Kush. The price likely will be about $20 a gram.

Wilson had hoped to open his store sooner but said he had to wait for available supply at what he thought were more reasonable prices.

“My location definitely plays a part in that just because there’s so much black market around me,” Wilson explained. “Marijuana should be affordable for everybody. For this business to make it and for everybody to be able to enjoy this business, it has to be priced fairly.”

Like other retailers, he expects prices to drop once more marijuana is harvested.

He’s already seeing improvement when it comes to supply, noting that he is now getting calls from pot processors instead of him “beating down the door” as he did in the past month.

“We’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now,” Wilson said. “I think supply is starting to catch up with demand.”

As for why he wanted to be part of the state’s newest industry since Washington state voters legalized recreational marijuana, Wilson said: “Honestly, I’ve been a smoker for years. I just saw a chance. I’ve been a supporter of the market for years, and I wanted to jump in on the ground floor.”

Green Stop will be open until 8 p.m. Monday. After that, its regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Its phone number is 360-746-8734.
