Mapping the 2013 election: How I-522 fared in Whatcom County

Whatcom County was just one of five counties in Washington state to approve Initiative 522, which would have required labeling of genetically modified food.

High-density King County and less-populated Jefferson, Thurston and San Juan counties were the others to vote "yes" on the measure, which has failed statewide.

In Whatcom County, most precincts in and around Bellingham approved I-522. Voters in the Acme area, on Lummi Island, the Glacier area, Point Roberts, and part of Blaine also voted yes.But most precincts in the rest of the county defeated the measure, including Ferndale and Lynden. Here's a map of the preliminary Whatcom County results, by precinct, for Initative 522.

- Blue precincts: The majority of voters voted "yes."
