A Bellingham man apparently had a medical emergency just before rolling his pickup truck up an embankment, narrowly missing a telephone pole Saturday morning, May 17 in the 1700 block of E. Smith Road, according to Washington State Patrol.
A witness told troopers that the eastbound silver Toyota truck was not speeding when it veered to the right and went off the road at 7:52 a.m. just east of Noon Road, Trooper Mark Francis said.
The truck struck the ditch and rolled into some trees before landing on its wheels, according to a State Patrol news release.
The driver, Eric S. Braun, 37, needed CPR and was transported to St. Joseph hospital, Francis said. Braun was apparently not injured by the crash, but appeared to be suffering from whatever life-threatening condition likely caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Braun was wearing his seatbelt and drugs or alcohol were not believed to have played a role in the crash, according to the release.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
