FERNDALE — A woman from Surrey, B.C., was knocked unconscious when she crashed her car into a guardrail at the Slater Road interchange Friday afternoon, Feb. 28.
Bernadette M. Casavant, 60, exited the freeway at the southbound off-ramp of Interstate 5. But her car, a gray 2005 Nissan Altima, kept going in spite of the stop sign at the top of the ramp, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis.
The Altima crashed into a guard rail on the opposite side of the road at 2:05 p.m., near the top of the on-ramp. No other cars were hit.
Casavant, the Altima's only occupant, was briefly knocked out. She couldn't recall how the crash happened, Francis said.

Troopers don't think drugs or alcohol were involved; they were investigating medical problems as a possible cause.
