Bellingham Police are looking for this suspect in kidnapping, sexual assault
Bellingham police released security videos Wednesday afternoon, June 15, of a man accused of sexually assaulting two teenagers and possibly others.
Detectives have struggled to identify the attacker since the early morning hours of May 28, when one of the young women, 18, reported being kidnapped and assaulted in his van.
The man had talked with the teens around 9 p.m. at the Cordata bus station in Bellingham. He asked how to get to a place on Samish Way, and they got in the van and agreed to direct him to that place, according to police.
Once they were inside the van, he held them at knifepoint for hours, police said. The teens reported being driven to Lynden and Sumas. He sexually assaulted them in a barn, they said, and dropped off both of them on a rural road.
Footage from the bus station shows a man in his 30s, about 5-foot-6, around 200 pounds, in a black T-shirt and a black New York Yankees hat.
Still images of the suspect were released weeks ago on social media. Until Wednesday, police had declined to say what happened in the van.
Detectives are trying to find the van, too.
Police suspect two other cases could be connected: one from the past year, and another from the past three years or so, said Lt. Mike Johnston. He declined to elaborate, except to say all three incidents remain under investigation.
