Police released a sketch Thursday, March 17, of a man who robbed a Bellingham coffee stand on Meridian Street earlier this week.

The man walked up to a drive-up window on the east side of Buzz Thru Coffee, 2605 Meridian St., and ordered a drink around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The barista shut the window and started making the drink. She turned around when she heard the noise of the man reopening the window and climbing inside, said Lt. Bob Vander Yacht.

He told her he wouldn’t hurt her if she gave him cash. She opened the register for him, and he took cash. She escaped by crawling through a window — cutting her leg on a piece of metal seriously enough that she needed stitches.

She flagged down a witness who called 911.

The man ran south on Meridian, turning onto West North Street and ducking into an alley, Vander Yacht said. Officers searched the area but couldn’t find him.

Police released the composite sketch on Thursday afternoon.
