Sheriff’s deputies were looking for a drive-by shooting suspect who shot a man in the leg late Sunday, May 31, in the Paradise area of Whatcom County.
A 33-year-old Paradise resident had been working on a boat with another person in the 8400 block of Cimarron Way around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, when he left for a moment to meet someone in a vehicle, said Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks.
For reasons that haven’t been made clear, the driver shot the man through the left leg, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The person that was shot was targeted,” Parks said. “It wasn’t random.”

Sheriff’s deputies, U.S. Border Patrol agents and Washington state troopers swarmed the neighborhood. No one had been arrested as of Monday.
Other details remain hazy.
The victim — who is “well-known to law enforcement,” Parks said — hasn’t been cooperative with deputies, and the sheriff’s office has been reluctant to release more information while detectives investigate. An update on the victim’s condition wasn’t available Monday.
No other information about the shooter, the firearm or the vehicle had been released as of Monday.
