Police arrested a 14-year-old boy Monday afternoon, March 9, in connection with a series of groping incidents on the trail near Cordata Park.
Over the weekend the victim of one of the groping incidents believed that she had seen her attacker getting into a car at an apartment complex near where the groping incidents had occurred. The victim alerted Bellingham Police Detective Sue Howell, who was assigned as lead investigator on this case.
Howell identified the vehicle, contacted its owner and then found the teenager, who lives with his parent at an apartment complex near the sites of the groping incidents.
The boy has been connected to four of the five groping incidents that have occurred since late August 2014. He was booked into Whatcom County Juvenile Detention and appeared in juvenile court Tuesday. He was being held on four counts of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.
