Bellingham woman sentenced to six months for silently stabbing man

A woman who approached a man sitting on the sidewalk, stabbed him and then walked away without saying a word was sentenced to six months in Whatcom County Jail on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Jordan C. Raney, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for stabbing Jeshua Morgan with a knife around 1:20 a.m. Dec. 15, 2014, according to sentencing documents filed in Whatcom County Superior Court.

Raney also will serve probation after her release from jail and must maintain mental health treatment.

Morgan and a friend were sitting on a sidewalk near 1300 Cornwall Ave. when Raney walked up to them and stabbed Morgan in the leg, according to charging documents.

Morgan and the friend told police that Raney did not say anything before or after the stabbing. Morgan was treated at the scene for a 1-inch cut on his thigh and transported to St. Joseph hospital.

Police found Raney minutes after the stabbing by matching her with the description given by Morgan. They then found a switchblade knife in a nearby trash can; it matched a sheath held by Raney. She was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Raney also has convictions of first-degree criminal trespass, theft, disorderly conduct and negligent driving since 2009.
