A U.S. mail truck on a route north of Bellingham was struck by an SUV Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, sending one woman to St. Joseph hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A woman driving a Ford Explorer north on Guide Meridian crossed over, or onto, the fog line north of Laurel Road at 2:40 p.m., crashing into the back corner of a U.S. Postal Service truck that was on the shoulder, said Trooper Mark Francis.
The Ford rolled over; the driver was taken to the St. Joseph hospital. Her injuries aren’t considered life threatening, Francis said. The mailman had back pain, but he didn’t need emergency medical aid.
Pieces of mail were strewn “all over” the road, Francis said.
Traffic was briefly blocked, but northbound drivers were rerouted through a center turn lane.
The drivers’ names hadn’t been released as of Friday evening.
