Arrest in New Year’s slaying of Concrete man

Skagit County sheriff’s detectives have a arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 47-year-old Concrete man early New Year’s morning.

A news release did not name the suspect in the slaying, which claimed the life of Allen Kesterson. The county’s jail roster did not list an arrest for murder.

Chief Don McDermott of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called at 4:13 a.m. Thursday, Jan.1, to a home in the 38800 block of Highway 20 near Concrete, where Kesterson was dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

McDermott said the motive was unclear and the investigation was continuing. He said the only connection between the victim and the suspect is that they had both attended a New Year’s Eve party at the apparent murder scene.

The suspect faces charges of second-degree murder, McDermott said.
