Man killed while crossing street for mail on Willeys Lake Road

A man was hit by a car and killed as he was walking across the street to a mailbox at his home near Custer Saturday, Dec. 20, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Delwin D. Goode, 73, was crossing the street near the 1300 block of Willeys Lake Road around 4:30 p.m. with the assistance of a walker when a 2013 Toyota Sienna traveling westbound struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Washington State Patrol spokesman Travis Shearer said.

The driver of the Toyota, 55-year-old Gina Adair, was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Shearer said. She voluntarily had her blood drawn.

Shearer said Goode was wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans. The speed limit on the two-lane road is 35 mph. It was raining at the time, Shearer said.

Adair told troopers she did not see the man in the road, Shearer said.

The incident is still under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
