Grandparent killed in Hannegan crash

A grandparent involved in a three-car crash on Hannegan Road on Thursday, Dec. 4 has died, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Nile Mott, 74, of Lynden died the day after the crash, troopers said. Mott was the driver of a Honda CRV that was struck from behind around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, sending Mott and four passengers of the CRV, including his 1-year-old grandson, to the hospital.

A Jeep Liberty hit the CRV, causing the CRV to hit a Chevy Tahoe that was waiting to take a left turn on Central Road. The Jeep was driven by 52-year-old Eric Larson of Ferndale, the Washington State Patrol said.

Any potential citations against Larson are pending the outcome of the crash investigation, troopers said, but speed and inattention were factors in the crash.

All nine people involved in the crash wore seat belts, troopers said.
