Video released of Bellingham espresso stand robbery

An espresso stand hit by what appears to be a serial robber has released video of the robbery.

A barista at Zoom Zoom Espresso, 845 Lincoln St., was robbed at gunpoint around 5:07 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28. The man took cash, told an employee to get on the ground, and ran off.

Police suspect the robber fled on a non-BMX bike. He might have stuffed the black handgun into a reusable grocery bag. The man was last seen heading north, in the direction of Fred Meyer and Lakeway Drive.

The robber was described as white, in his 40s or 50s and clean shaven. He wore a dark rain jacket with the hood up and carried an over-the-shoulder shopping bag.

Just two days earlier, around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, a man with an almost identical description robbed I Wana Moka, 3100 Old Fairhaven Parkway. That man was dressed in all black. After robbing the Fairhaven barista at gunpoint, he told her to run. He’s believed to have fled on a bicycle.

Both coffee stands are very close to Interstate 5 exits. In both cases, officers, police dogs and a helicopter were used to search for the robber, but he wasn’t found.

Two other Bellingham businesses, Westside Pizza and Man Pies, were robbed earlier in November by a gunman with a similar look and M.O.
