Concrete man dies after vehicle goes off highway, hits tree in Lyman


A 65-year-old Concrete man died after his vehicle struck a tree off the North Cascades Highway in Lyman, the Washington State Patrol said.

John D. O’Hern was driving a maroon 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser east on the highway at Pipeline Road on Monday when it went off the road and to the north, went about 400 feet through grass and brush before hitting a tree.

It stopped about 100 feet off the road, the State Patrol said.

O’Hern died at the scene of the Skagit County crash, which was reported at 6:14 p.m.

He was wearing a seatbelt.

It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
