Bellingham police were called to Shuksan Middle School Monday afternoon after a student brought and displayed a BB gun during the school day, according to Bellingham Public Schools spokeswoman Jackie Brawley.
Officers were still on the scene investigating Monday afternoon, according to Lt. Danette Beckley, but police didn’t believe there were any significant injuries or threats.
Weapons are prohibited at the school. Though discipline cannot be shared due to student privacy laws, Brawley said school administrators are working closely with the student and family to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Shuksan families have been contacted by the school district, Brawley said, and they have been encouraged to let school administrators and counselors know if their child needs support.
