Getting around Blaine will be a little more challenging this weekend as construction crews close a road to replace a fish culvert.
Work on Blaine Road between Hoyt Street and Hall Road will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, and is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, according to a news release from the Washington state Department of Transportation.
A signed detour will be in place during the closure. Nearby businesses and residents will have access during the project. After the road reopens on Aug. 22, crews will do final repaving work in September.
The project will involve digging a 10-foot-deep hole as crews remove a 3-foot diameter culvert and replace it with a 12-foot-wide, 6-foot-tall box culvert. The larger culvert will allow fish to more easily travel the waterway, according to the news release.
