An informal revival of the former annual downtown chalk art festival is free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, near Dakota Art, 1322 Cornwall Ave.

For nearly 20 years, hundreds of area residents decorated downtown sidewalks with dramatic and whimsical designs. The Chalk ArtFest event was canceled in 2012 for lack of financial sponsorship. Participants are urged to bring their own chalk. All skill levels encouraged. Non-toxic chalk or pastels are available for purchase at Dakota Art.

This revival is a nonprofit event being organized by local resident Peter Wiegand. For information, go to the Amateur Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival page on Facebook.
