Longtime Ferndale resident Don McKay died after an accident during preparations for Blaine’s annual Fourth of July parade on Monday, officials said.
McKay was unloading an antique tractor from a trailer to show in the parade around 9 a.m., said Lisa Moeller, a spokeswoman for the Blaine Police Department.
The tractor ran him over and he died from the injuries, said Gary Goldfogel, Whatcom County medical examiner.
McKay’s family owned a large dairy farm in Ferndale and he was well-known in the community, Mayor Jon Mutchler said Tuesday morning.
