A Bellingham bicyclist remained in critical condition Monday, June 6, after colliding with a dump truck last week on Interstate 5.

Amanda Carolynn Mihalovits, 27, had been biking south on the freeway’s right shoulder near the exit to Lakeway Drive, when — for an unknown reason — she swerved across two lanes of traffic around 9 a.m. Friday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Miholovits crashed into the side of a dump truck in the left southbound lane. She suffered broken bones and a severe head injury.

She remained in critical condition Monday in the intensive care unit of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, a hospital spokeswoman said.

That stretch of the freeway is off-limits to bicyclists.

No charges are pending against the truck driver, a 33-year-old man from Hamilton.
