Repaving starts Tuesday night on Bellingham I-5 section
Repaving on a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 5 from Bellingham south to Nulle Road begins Tuesday night, May 24.
Contractors will repave the section of I-5 between the exits at Nulle Road and Iowa Street. The on- and off-ramps at North Lake Samish Drive also will be repaved, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Much of the work is scheduled for 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Drivers should expect single-lane and shoulder closures during the work. The southbound State Street/Ohio Street off-ramp and North Lake Samish Drive ramps may be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The repaving comes 25 years after some sections in the area were last paved. The road is showing cracks, potholes and ruts.
The $2.6 million project is expected to wrap up in fall.
