An annual Mother’s Day celebration at Big Rock Garden features music and poetry at the park, which is home to an outdoor sculpture collection numbering more than three dozen pieces amid its wooded gardens full of blossoming rhododendrons and azaleas.
Local painters will be working plein air and auctioning their art to benefit the park. Local poets will be reading from 1-3:30 p.m. Local swing band Heebie Jeebies performs 1-3 p.m. Children’s activities and light refreshments will be offered.
On-site parking will be available for those with disabilities, but space is otherwise limited at the park, 2900 Sylvan St. in the Silver Beach neighborhood. No pets are allowed at the park. Restrooms will be open. A free shuttle operates from nearby Bloedel-Donovan Park, and Big Rock Garden is accessible on foot and by bicycle via the Railroad Trail, the Klipsun Trail and other routes that are part of the city’s greenways system.
