Uber to resume service at Bellingham International Airport, cruise terminal
The Port of Bellingham announced Monday that Uber will resume offering rides to and from the Bellingham airport and cruise terminal. The announcement comes five years after the company withdrew service due to a fee dispute.
The return to service begins June 15 and follows a 50-cent reduction in pick-up and drop-off fees for rideshare companies, according to Port of Bellingham spokesperson Michael Hogan.
Uber previously stopped operating at Bellingham International Airport and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal after the Port of Bellingham refused to lower its then-fee rate of $3.50. The new rate was approved by the Port Commission in March and went into effect May 1.
Hogan told the Herald that the new fee represents a fair market rate, “particularly when compared to similarly sized airports on the West Coast.”
Uber did not respond to a request for comment.
“Our travelers have told us they want more flexible, on-demand options for getting to and from the airport, and we listened,” said Matt Rodriguez, Director of Aviation at Bellingham International Airport, in a statement. “Welcoming Uber back means a smoother, more convenient experience for passengers arriving and departing throughout the day, including those early-morning and late-night flights when reliable transportation matters most.”
