Whatcom Roundup: Boundary Bay’s new brewery; Chick-fil-A opening soon

Here’s our weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Boundary Bay new location progress

Boundary on State, Boundary Bay Brewery’s newest nanobrewery location, is making progress, according to building permit applications filed to the city of Bellingham.

Permit applications have been filed for a sidewalk cafe and two electric ovens, both filed March 11 but not approved as of March 13.

No official opening date has been set. Boundary on State will be at 954 N State St. in downtown Bellingham, in the previous location of Time and Materials Taphouse that closed in November 2024.

More Chick-fil-A progress

Bellingham’s Chick-fil-A is nearing its opening, as a building permit application for the restaurant’s fire alarm system has been approved. The restaurant at 4030 Cordata Pkwy does not have an official opening date, but is currently hiring.

Voting open for Cascade’s Best Awards

The annual Cascade’s Best Awards, a local competiton featuring local businesses and companies across Northwest Washington, is back for another year.

Voting for this year’s awards is now open through April 3 at 5 p.m. Awards are given out in various categories such as home and garden, shopping, eat and drink, education, services and more.

Winners for the 2026 awards will be announced in June.
