Whatcom Roundup: New bar, Barkley store opening, restaurant temporarily closing
Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
New Bellingham bar planned
A new bar is planned for downtown Bellingham: Elk St. Tavern, a sister bar to Redlight Kitchen & Bar. Owners filed a liquor license permit for 1017 N State St. that had not been approved as of April 1. No opening date has been announced but the Elk St. Tavern Instagram profile teases it will open soon.
New Mexican restaurant planned
A building permit application was filed for a new restaurant at 107 E Stuart St. in Bellingham, the previous location of Gandolfo’s New York Deli. The new eatery will be called Alba’s Cocina Mexican Food. The permit application was filed March 27 and had not been approved as of March 29.
New store in Barkley village
Stockton’s Paint, a family-owned paint store with locations in Bellingham and Mount Vernon, has opened a second Bellingham location in Barkley Village.
The new store opened April 1 and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily at 1255 Barkley Blvd. in Bellingham.
Restaurant temporarily closed
Old World Deli will be temporarily closed for a month to complete renovations, according to a Facebook post.
The store is hosting a sale to clear out inventory until the closure on April 5.
Old World Deli is at 1228 N State St. in Bellingham.
New downtown nightclub proposed
A building permit application was filed for a new nightclub at 1115 Railroad Ave. Suite A101 in Bellingham, with the name “Hut.” The permit was approved March 26.
