Four small wildfires have been contained in the Mount Baker wilderness above the Whatcom County town of Glacier.

Fires in the Canyon Creek drainage north of Glacier were sparked by lightning when thunderstorms swept through the North Cascades on Thursday and Friday, said Jeff Clark, a spokesman with the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

“Smokejumpers and an engine (crew) were able to contain them,” Clark told The Bellingham Herald in a phone interview.

Each was reported at less than an acre in size.

“They are definitely contained. I don’t know if they are completely out, but they are 100% contained,” Clark said.
