Want to watch Bellingham’s Jonas Ecker compete at the Olympics? Here’s when, how to watch
This summer’s Olympics, which kicked off last week, will feature a Bellingham local. Jonas Ecker, a Sehome High School graduate and Ski to Sea mainstay, is competing in the men’s canoe sprint alongside his racing partner Aaron Small.
With the nine hour time difference between Paris and Bellingham, Ecker’s events are taking place in the early hours of the morning for those watching from Washington. But if you’re willing to stay up late, here’s how you can watch the hometown athlete compete.
When is Ecker competing?
Ecker and Small qualified for the men’s doubles 500 meter kayak event, which falls under the canoe sprint umbrella.
- The event’s preliminary round will take place on Aug. 6 at 2:30 a.m.
- If Ecker and Small advance, the quarterfinals are slated for the same day at 5:30 a.m.
- The semifinals are slated for Aug. 9 at 2:10 a.m., with the final taking place just over two hours later.
According to the American Canoe Association, the duo will compete individually too in the men’s singles 1,000 meter kayak event. The preliminary round and quarterfinals are slated for Aug. 7 at 1:40 and 5:10 a.m., respectively, while the final two rounds will take place on Aug. 10 at 2:10 and 4:10 a.m.
