A boat launch dock installed June 15 has been damaged by weather and will have to be removed and repaired.
Following windy conditions Thursday, July 16, the new dock at Lighthouse Marine Park was discovered to have sustained damage, according to Whatcom County Parks and Recreation.
While there are no official records of wind speeds at Point Roberts, nearby areas reported speeds only as high as about 30 mph. Point Roberts may have had stronger winds because of its location and geography.
The dock was part of a $241,000 contract between Whatcom County Parks and HBHansen Construction Inc.

Rod Lamb, design and development supervisor for the parks department, said as of Monday, July 20, there is no time line for when the dock may be put back in service.
Challenging wave conditions at the dock’s location will have to be considered as repairs are made, Lamb said.
“It’s really unfortunate,” he said. “We’ll have to go back to the drawing board.”
