The original Dexter iris garden near Deming will be open to the public during Memorial Day weekend, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and Monday, May 23-25.
The garden at 4345 Williams Road has more than 100 varieties of tall bearded irises in full bloom, including the original collection of Stan Dexter.
The collection was started by Dexter and cared for by the late Marie Ingersoll. Kristine Williams, an agriculture teacher and horticulturist, is now the garden’s caretaker.
Rhizomes will be available for sale. Admission and parking are free. The garden is wheelchair-accessible and there are public restrooms.
