What’s closed Memorial Day in Whatcom County

Schools, government agencies and many businesses will be closed Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day. Most major retailers will be open, but some independent stores will be closed. Here is the status of various businesses and services Monday. For those not listed here, call ahead to check hours.


Whatcom County offices: Closed.

Bellingham city offices: Closed.

Whatcom County library branches, bookmobile: Closed.

Bellingham Public Library: Closed. Note that the library also is closed Sundays in summer starting May 24.

Bellingham parking meters: Meters not monitored.


Banks: Most closed.

U.S. Postal Service: No mail delivery.

Garbage: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal have regular pickup schedule, but trucks might be earlier than usual. Put out trash and recycling the night before. SSC offices and the recycling center at F and Roeder streets closed Monday.

WTA: No buses running.

The Bellingham Herald: Offices closed; regular newspaper delivery. Customer service for missed papers is open 7 to 9 a.m.; call 360-676-2660.

Opportunity Council: Closed.

YMCA: Closed.

Boys & Girls Clubs: Closed.


Grocery stores: Regular hours.

Bellis Fair: Regular hours. Some anchor stores have longer hours for special sales.

Movie theaters: Open.


Public schools: Closed.

Whatcom Community College: Closed.

Western Washington University: Closed.

Bellingham Technical College: Closed.

Northwest Indian College: Closed.
