Some Whatcom County residents can drop off old tires for free near Nugents Corner

Households can recycle up to 15 car or small-truck tires, with or without rims, for free Saturday, May 16, near Nugents Corner.

People can drop off tires from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cedarville Drop Box Facility & Recycling Center, 3463 Cedarville Road.

Organizers are focusing on recycling tires from residents who live “up-river,” those in the 98220, 98244, 98247 and 98266 zip codes.

People who are recycling tires should bring proof of Whatcom County residency.

Tractor tires and tires from businesses won’t be accepted for recycling.

To reach the center, take Mount Baker Highway to Cedarville Road near Nugents Corner. Go north on Cedarville Road for about 1/4-mile to the Cowden Gravel & Ready Mix plant at 3463 Cedarville Road. The recycling center is straight through the Cowden plant and up the hill.
