New student rec center taking shape at Whatcom Community College

Work continues on a new pavilion and student recreation center at Whatcom Community College, scheduled to open Sept. 22, the first day of fall quarter at the Bellingham campus.

The student-approved and funded project will include more than 24,000 square feet of new construction and 6,700 square feet of renovated space, including a new floor for the gym.

Students will have access to improved classrooms, a fitness center, exercise and dance studio space, and an elevated running track. Site improvements on the east and south sides of the building will create a stronger pedestrian connection to the Syre Student Center.

Tiger Construction of Everson is the general contractor.
