Portal Way bridge near Blaine to close for six months

The Portal Way bridge over Dakota Creek will be closed for about six months, beginning on Tuesday, May 12. The time of the closure was not immediately available late Friday, May 8.

Trucks will be detoured to Interstate 5. Cars will take Blaine Road and Loomis Trail Road. Inspections of the 87-year-old, 335-foot bridge led to the discovery of “ significant seismic risks,” and the bridge will be reinforced to better withstand earthquakes.

The bridge is just south of the Blaine city limits. For more information, go to whatcomcounty.us and enter “ Portal Way Dakota Creek bridge” in the search box.
