Whatcom County residential sales up 52 percent in April

Whatcom County real estate agents put together another strong month in terms of home sales.

Last month 289 houses and condominiums were sold in Whatcom County, up 52.1 percent compared to a year ago, according to data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

Home sales are off to a fast start to 2015. In March sales were up 19.8 percent compared to a year earlier, while February sales were up 29.8 percent.

With the rise in home sales, the median price is also increasing. The median price in April for homes sold locally was $275,000, up 8.3 percent compared to a year ago.

In the 23 Washington counties the NWMLS serves, 7,696 houses and condos sold in April, up 24.3 percent compared to a year ago. The median price of those sales was $309,000, up 12.4 percent.

In Skagit County 178 homes sold last month, up 21.9 percent from a year ago.
