Bellingham, Blaine schools add class day to make up for teacher strike

Bellingham and Blaine school districts have scheduled make-up days for the school day that will be lost Friday, April 24, due to a teacher strike.

Bellingham School District Superintendent Greg Baker announced in a letter to families that the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 23, instead of June 22.

Blaine School District has submitted a recommendation at the next school board meeting to make up the lost school day on Monday, May 4, which was previously scheduled as a learning improvement day. The staff learning improvement day will be moved to Wednesday, June 10. The last school day for students will remain June 9, as originally scheduled.

Bellingham School District chose not to make up the day on either the May 1 or June 12 staff learning days.

Bellingham, Blaine and Ferndale teachers will participate in a walkout Friday, April 24, to protest the state Legislature’s failure to provide ample funding for basic education. Ferndale School District previously announced the school day would be made up Friday, June 12.

High school athletic events scheduled for April 24 will not be impacted by the teacher one-day strike.
