A U.S. Army veteran and high school soccer coach will run for City Council.

Matt Durkee announced Thursday, April 23, he will seek Position 4 on the council, which is currently occupied by Paul Ingram.

“I feel that I could bring positive ideas to what is already a positive current city council,” Durkee wrote in a press release. “I understand I will have a bit of a learning curve if you the Ferndale community elect me for city council.”

In the statement, Durkee said government should be “financially fiscal, yet spend for growth for the betterment of our community.”

Durkee served nine years in the U.S. Army and works in the Ferndale School District as a paraeducator. He also coaches high school and club soccer teams.
