Ferndale woman, 86, dies from injuries in Skagit County crash

An 86-year-old Ferndale woman died Saturday, March 21, from injuries she sustained in a Skagit County car crash earlier in the week.

Helen L. Wifler, 86, was transported to Anacortes Island Hospital after the crash March 17, and died four days later at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Wifler was a passenger in a 1995 Ford Escape driven by 86-year-old Kenneth Grant of Oak Harbor. The Ford tried making a right turn from North Dewey Beach Drive and collided with a Subaru Outback on Highway 20.

Grant was transported to Anacortes Island Hospital as a precaution. Two adults and an 11-year-old boy in the Subaru were uninjured in the crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Subaru had an estimated $10,000 in damage, and the Ford $5,000. Both cars were towed from the scene.

No criminal charges were filed.
