Two finalists for Whatcom County Public Works director will meet the public and give brief presentations on Tuesday, March 17.
Both candidates have worked for the department before. Jon Hutchings was the county’s assistant public works director from 2007 to 2012. He now holds the same title for Bellingham, where he oversees the Public Works Department’s natural resources division.
Candidate Bruce Mills is deputy director of the Ada County, Idaho, Highway District. Previously Mills was Whatcom County’s Public Works engineer in charge of roads from 1999 to 2002.
The reception will be 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Garden Level Conference Room at the Civic Center, 322 N. Commercial St. Attendees will be invited to comment in writing on the candidates.
The county is replacing Frank Abart, who resigned from Public Works in February. Abart made $145,100 a year. His successor will earn between $105,000 and $143,100 a year, according to a county news release.
