The City Council has appointed a retired anesthesiologist to finish out the term of Clark Cotner, who resigned in January to move to Georgetown, Texas.
Mary Louise Steward will be sworn in at the council’s regular meeting Monday, March 9. She will represent Ward 3.
Six people from the ward applied for the seat.
The City Council interviewed candidates at a special meeting Monday, March 2, and picked Steward unanimously.

Steward sought to join the council, she said in her application, “as I enjoy living here so much, I want to help to keep Blaine such a special place.”
“I have traveled extensively and realize that we are so fortunate to have such a beautiful place to call home, with such delightful neighbors. This is possible only if we get involved in making it so,” Steward said.
Cotner was elected to the four-year City Council seat in November 2011.
