Bellingham group fighting money in politics hosts national speaker

As Whatcom County and the rest of the U.S. gear up for the 2016 presidential elections — which promise to set a record for campaign contributions — an organization seeking to get money out of politics will host a presentation by David Cobb.

Cobb, a lawyer and political activist with Move to Amend, will give a talk titled “Creating Democracy and Challenging Corporate Rule,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. The event, free to the public, will be at the Bellingham Elks Club, 710 Samish Way.

Cobb will speak against the concept of corporate personhood and the resulting U.S. Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission in 2010 that allowed unlimited expenditures by corporations and unions either for or against candidates for federal office.

Cobb is hosted by Move to Amend Whatcom. For more information, go to movetoamend.org/wa-bellingham.
