Whatcom County registered voters who aspire to a soon-to-be-vacant seat on the County Council must submit applications by 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19.
Applicants to replace outgoing council member Sam Crawford will give five-minute presentations at a public council meeting March 3 at the county courthouse. Council is scheduled to appoint Crawford’s successor on March 17.
Applicants must live in District 2, the northeast part of the county. More information, including a district map and the application form are available at the council webpage, whatcomcounty.us/council. The application is at the bottom of the page, under “Topics of Interest.” For the map, click on “About the Council and Councilmembers,” then click on “Council districts.”
Crawford’s resignation goes into effect March 1. Then council has 30 days to fill his seat, or the decision goes to the county executive. Crawford announced Jan. 27 he would step down 10 months before the end of his fourth term to take on more responsibilities at his job.
