Award-winning costume designer teaching class in Bellingham

A costume designer well-known in the cosplay community will be putting on a one-day costume- and prop-making class.

Athena Cole of Enayla Cosplay will be teaching a class called “Costume & Prop Making in Worbla.” The event will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in The Foundry at 1515 N. Forest St.

Cosplay, or costume play, is a performance art where participants wear costumes that represent characters or ideas. Worbla is a thermoplastic material used in a variety of ways, including for armor and props.

According to a news release, Cole is an award-winning designer who has been active at conventions for eight years. For the hands-on class, Cole will teach students the basics of patterning, construction, sealing and painting.

The cost is $25 for Foundry members and $30 for non-members. Details and registration information can be found by going to bellinghamfoundry.com and clicking the events tab.
