A Deming man was killed when he lost control of his pickup on an icy patch of East Smith Road near Mount Baker Highway about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3.
George D. Williams, 68, died when lost control of his 2000 Ford Ranger, struck a mailbox and rolled. Williams’ pickup landed on its roof off the road in the 3300 block of East Smith Road, according to an accident report issued by the Washington State Patrol.
He was wearing a seat belt and drugs and alcohol were not a factor. His pickup was destroyed.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol said the road was icy and the accident report blamed the crash on “speed too fast for conditions.”
