Financial aid experts to help Whatcom high school students complete FAFSA

A program that travels to high schools to help students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid comes to Whatcom County starting this week. Some previously announced times for the events have changed and new ones have been added.

College Goal Washington will help college applicants fill out their FAFSA. The form is standard for all students looking to obtain federal or state need-based financial aid for the 2015-16 school year.

Those not eligible to file the FAFSA due to citizenship may be able to file the Washington Application for State Financial Aid, or WASFA.

The financial aid experts will visit 60 sites throughout the state in January and February. Attendees are asked to bring social security numbers, driver’s licenses and family financial records.

A full list of all 60 sites is available on College Goal Washington’s website. Here is an updated list of the schools the program will visit in Whatcom County:

Nooksack Valley High School, 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 7.

Sehome High School, 6 to 8 p.m Jan. 8.

Ferndale High School, 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 10.

Bellingham High School, 6 to 8 p.m Jan. 13.

Lynden High School, 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 14

Meridian High School, 6 to 8 p.m Jan. 15.

Mount Baker High School, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m Jan 17.

Squalicum High School, 2 to 4 p.m Jan. 18.

Blaine High School, 5:30 to 8 p.m Jan. 22.

Lummi Nation School, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 3
