Bellingham homeless shelters to open during cold snap

In response to the cold, Interfaith Coalition is opening its severe-weather shelters Monday and Tuesday nights, Dec. 29 and 30, to provide safe places for homeless people. The men’s shelter has a new location this year, at the Lighthouse Mission Drop-In Center, 1013 W. Holly St., about a block north of the mission. The shelter for women and children is at Garden Street Methodist Church, at the corner of Garden and Magnolia streets.

Shelters open at 5:30 p.m. each day. Salt on the Street will provide transportation to the shelters between 5 and 7 p.m. by picking up people at the Rainbow Center, 209 W. Holly St.; Northwest Baptist Church, 3545 Northwest Ave.; and Northwest Regional Council, 600 Lakeway Drive.

The Lighthouse Mission Drop-In Center also will be open during the day for warmth and shelter from the elements. For more information, contact 360-734-3983.
