Bellingham proposes removing Ohio St. parking to add bike lanes

The Bellingham Herald

The city proposes a trade-off: Remove street parking from at least one side of Ohio Street to add bike lanes on both sides.

City officials have discussed this already with business owners on Ohio, particularly in the project zone from Cornwall Avenue to State Street. The general public will have a chance to weigh in at an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the Bellingham High School cafeteria, 2020 Cornwall Ave. City officials will show multiple proposals for bike lanes on that stretch of Ohio.

The project, tentatively scheduled for construction in summer 2015, also includes pedestrian improvements on Ohio at Ellis and Grant streets.

The projects were written into the city’s 2012 pedestrian master plan and the 2014 bicycle master plan. The City Council will hold a public hearing, possibly in February, to gather more public input before voting on whether to approve the work.
